Rift

The MMORPG is currently in search of his second wind. For new entrants, it is no longer even try to compete with World of Warcraft, but to find ways to survive beyond the first year of operation other than switch to a model Economic free to play. It must be said that the players begin to tire of multiple creative and refuse to pay for experiments too similar to each other. It is in this particularly difficult spell Rift MMO unoriginal fed various influences, which focuses on the viability of a monthly subscription. The bet is daring. The risk is certainly great, but it is measured. For if it is developed by a young Californian studio, Rift is paradoxically the work of the oldies MMO. Co-founded by Jon Van Caneghem (the dad of the Heroes of Might & Magic has since left the ship), Trion World has indeed in its ranks former NC Soft and Sony Online Entertainment, including Bill Trost Beliaeff and Nicholas, two of the creators of EverQuest. Suffice to say that the first MMO  the studio could not start from scratch! But besides that, the game does not hesitate to borrow good ideas right and left. The background reminiscent of Aion gameplay sights set on World of Warcraft, the fault system and invasions owes as much as Warhammer Online Tabula Rasa collections come straight out of Everquest II, etc.. One could cite many other references, but the important thing is whether Rift able to digest the influences which it feeds, and so beyond its composite aspect, it manages to offer a gameplay consistent and find a real personality.ift takes place in the fantasy world of Telara particularly unstable. Long ago, people had humanoid united to repel the dragon regulos terrible, god of extinction, and servants of the Bloody Tempest. They had managed to banish all the pretty people in the plans and build an impenetrable barrier, the Veil is supposed to protect the future of this threat. Alas, in a terrible civil war that divided the humans, a power-hungry prince followed the will of regulos and caused a powerful explosion which had the effect of slashing the Veil. Since the world is plagued by frequent attacks of the dragon god and his servants, which weaken and tear the magical protection. Open faults regularly everywhere, spilling hordes of creatures from the plans. To make matters worse, the people of Telara are divided: whether the two factions, the Guardians and Renegades, each trying to save the world, their beliefs and their methods differ, so they compete almost as often they struggle against the invaders planar. The game offers you to play as a Chosen, a legendary figure rose to liberate Telara threat of Bloody Tempest. Depending on which faction you choose to belong, you have a background  and a different prologue. But you must first create your avatar, Starting with choosing one of three people related to each faction (Mathosien, Elf and Dwarf Guards side or Kelari, Eth and Bahm Renegades side, with some racial traits in the key), then selecting one of four archetypes available: warrior, cleric, rogue and mage. It will do more than define your physical appearance through an editor sufficiently complete, but that is not what we've seen better in this regard. It must be said that different breeds are quite typed (away from the basic look is often equivalent to spoil his character), but the character design lost somewhere between Lineage and Everquest 2 does not much paradoxically emerges as an artist. Same observation in game environments, varied and well arranged but probably a little cold.Although the two starting zones are securely scripted, they may serve the game as they give the impression of engaging a MMORPG lambda and does nothing to demonstrate its merits. Novices will appreciate slowly probably take their marks, but the old pros will feel (which hopefully will fade thereafter) to engage in a common clone of World of Warcraft. It must be said that the gameplay is very Rift close to that of Blizzard's hit, which is in itself a compliment to the resolution of fighting in the arrangement of quests through the management of inventory and the overall design interface, borrowings are evident. Everything is so simple and so natural, and that was the wish of the team Trion, who wanted his MMO as accessible as possible. But the comparison stops there with WoW (or almost) to the extent Rift offers an evolution of character and a lot more interesting PvE much more demanding. His two strengths are undeniably its system of souls and its mechanisms of faults.he system of souls, for starters, offers real flexibility in developing your character, in a surprising MMO Western and oh so appreciated! Your avatar  has in fact three different specializations (from a possible eight in each class), among which you do not need to switch: you get together all the advantages they give you and all the skills (active or passive) you've unlocked in the trees for that purpose. To take one example, the thief can be both Sharpshooter (specializes in ranged combat), Ranger (with a pet to send the body to body) and Bard (capable of booster his companions). That's what refine your style of play, knowing that you will still try to find the right balance between flexibility and specialization. Especially that as you invest points in a given tree, you unlock extra abilities on his "roots", which allow you to specialize even more if you so desireThe system of souls thus gives rise to innumerable combinations, some of which will of course be much more viable than others. You can actually "miss" your character (although a re-specialization is still possible), especially since obtaining your three souls occurs fairly early in the progression. And that, it is priceless! Moreover, several features are in support of this ingenious concept. You should know that you can enjoy a soul dedicated specifically to PvP  : There is one by archetype, which can replace one of your three classic soul and give you bonuses when turned towards confrontation against other players. You also have the opportunity to purchase a second role, which allows you to give other specialties to your characters and switcher then freely between the two profiles depending on the situation. The increase in Rift is darn interesting, especially since the game, particularly rich in quests, never compelled to do a tedious farming so you can level up.
