Crash Time 4 : The Syndicate

There are those who await their appointment with their annual license fetish like Call of Duty, Fifa and other Need for Speed. Since 2008, a handful of gamers consciously note the release date of a Crash Time, a name behind which lies the famous German series Cobra. Playing detective highways seems to have his little success since it is already the fourth episode, which was created by The Syndicate.
You can not not know Cobra. This series featuring two German officers of the Highway Patrol already has at least served as a background sound to your snacks after school. For a little over two years, his two heroes Semir Gerkan and Ben Jäger have found their way to the game adaptation of their adventures. Finally adaptation is a big word. Crash Time evokes some outside characters and action taking place in Germany, very little of the series. This license has evolved since its first appearance and has created a core of followers by his very special character: Crash Time that's life in the police, the real, with all that it can bring an original as boring. Always offered at reduced prices, Crash Time 4  Semir Ben and will put on a crusade against organized crime in Cologne, in the face of evil Syndicate. A "scenario" which is not really one and serves as a pretext for all sorts of missions. But beyond that, Crash Time 4 marks a small milestone in the habits of the series: this is the only scenario. No more cases to be solved separately and each having their own little story. Here everything revolves around the war against the Union. An idea of the main thread had been found in Crash Time 3 and here is unique. A choice that we feel as a desire to change a bit of a recipe that made the game very linear, loved the fans but largely frowned on by critics. A little baffled by this change, there are still brands very quickly.
The driving of vehicles has not moved a hair, always so easy to begin with and conducive to good feelings. The "arcade more" is always present and can hit the road at high speed without flinching. This pipe serves a number of vehicles honest, unofficial but easily recognizable. All have their specificities, summary but they still benefit from an damages both visually and mechanically. A significant detail for a game arcade and decidedly low budget, even if we continue to find some details too much as the automatic replacement of a lost wheel.

These streets and highways to explore the high speed are those of Cologne Area (in Germany for those who would experience water but not much geo). The German atmosphere and the broader European architecture is once again very well transcribed and differentiates truly sets proposed by the other racing games. Some places in the city are faithfully reproduced, all is well built and light effects on the city particularly successful. Cons in part, we note a clipping more or less pronounced depending on the environment, a aliasing large and coarse textures soon as one approaches a little too much. Despite these shortcomings, the set is varied and far from unpleasant. Harder forgivable, the framerate stable but very low resulting in very strange sensations, especially in cities, it seems that the game sometimes struggles to keep pace with the car.
Living streets by their movement but still exempt from pedestrians, lack of realism on one side in opposition to that which can be found in some detail: traffic lights animated vehicles that put their turn signal before turning and leaving you move if you hit the siren, level crossings and many other things. Also, do not expect some kind of evolution on the staging. It always comes down to a camera that goes around the building or the car until the players have finished their conversation. A little cheap for a fourth album. These discussions are in English subtitled in honor of dubbing rather uninspired and very caricatured. And since we are talking about the sound environment, the action is brought by compositions with rock accents that are happening around their office. An honest, despite all its shortcomings, which is especially true for its originality and gives a peculiar tone to Crash Time for a fourth time.

The size of the playing area is relatively good, can walk freely and is divided into two parts: the city and highway (more widely on the outskirts of Cologne). The spawn points are many, are unlocked throughout the adventure and help save time by quickly traveling from one end to another card. Helped by a practical load times acceptable (it is advisable to install the game on the hard disk for visible results). These patrols are at the heart of gameplay: at some points, crossing for cars and most often by receiving a radio call, a mission is released. Each will take you towards a common goal: to put behind bars all union members. The list is long and bandits to get to the jam, he'll have to explore the city in search of hideouts and decorate with surveillance camera. The idea is roughly this: the more cameras, more visible are the bandits. Take them into spinning and reveal the dark places where they lurk. It operates on the principle that the most visible change in the course of a Crash Time and appears very quickly a very bad idea. Hideouts and cameras combined, we obtain a total of more than 300 places where you have to stop to hear Ben and Semir out relentlessly on the same three sentences. The police shoot themselves in the foot and the pace of the game is thereby destabilized. Especially as the scant data missions at one point, used to get some clues in the pocket, are mostly uninteresting.
And if we had to find another complaint to make to the course of the adventure, the party spinning can be nominated. Too precedence over other activities, it slows down a bit more pace and eventually you just arrest the suspect without taking the time to follow. Finally, to emphasize a little more action this redundancy, you need the police escort the suspects to prison. The idea is not bad, the result is not good. The vehicle will change often follow a path, focusing on the longest course for escorts soporific wish: very often, so it should be the other way, no attempt to escape the bandits. It will suffice to drive, hoping to be attacked.
